Having An Outdoor Winter Party

Winter Party
Lets have a winter party!

You can still have a party  in the middle of winter. Even with the cold and snowy conditions you can entertain your friends and family, having a wonderful time in the winter.
An event that we have always liked and had much fun with is an Outdoor Winter Party.
Making the most of the cold beautiful winter weather, this will be an event everyone will remember.
You can host the gathering in your backyard or other available places where there is open space and snow. Even without any snowfall this party can be held as it will be cold.
Here are my recommendations, suggestions, and ideas for having an exceptional outdoor entertaining event.
Pick a place to have the party, make sure you have a good amount of open space, particularly for the outdoor activities. Also, check local regulations for having an open fire. A bonfire is a winter outdoor party favorite place to gather around and makes everybody more comfortable. If you do not have space in your backyard a great alternative is to rent a lodge at your local park. They are usually available in various sizes and generally have a large fireplace
Plan ahead I generally plan on mid-January this month is the coldest and the likelihood of snow will be at its highest, as far as invitations go about 20 days before the party is perfect. It’s your choice digital or traditional card invitations.
Some people like digital invitations sent by email or text, evites is a good free choice. Another nice free service is canva , much flexibility you can print the invite and USPS mail. You can also email and post on Facebook with canva.
Make a special note for your guests to bundle up with layers and a heavy coat. Winter waterproof boots as well warm hat and gloves. Living in a cold part of the country your guests will surely have these items, a friendly reminder is still a good idea.

Food is really important your guests need warm delicious food at an Outdoor Winter party.
We like starting with the snacks first a favorite we have served are hot pretzel sticks. Instructions below.

In a small bowl, mix together cayenne pepper, lemon pepper, garlic salt, ranch-style dressing mix and vegetable oil.
Place pretzels in a large, sealable plastic bag. Pour in mixture from bowl. Shake well. Allow pretzels to marinate in the mixture approximately 2 hours before serving. Shake occasionally to maintain coating.

The other easy snack I like to serve is Santitas tortilla chips and homemade salsa, one of the best recipes I have found is from a spicy perspective

Chili a must have for cold weather eating! One of my favorite recipes is from chowhound.

Chili Instructions
1 Heat the oil in a large frying pan over medium heat until shimmering. Add the onions and bell pepper, season with salt, and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 8 minutes.
2 Add the garlic, chili powder, and cumin, stir to coat the vegetables, and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the ground beef and measured salt and cook, breaking the meat into small pieces with a wooden spoon, until the beef is no longer pink, about 7 minutes.
3 Transfer the mixture to the slow cooker, add the diced tomatoes and their juices, tomato sauce, and beans, and stir to combine. Cover and cook until the chili thickens and the flavors meld, about 8 hours on low or 6 hours on high.
4 Stir in the jalapeños or green chiles. Taste and season with salt as needed, and serve with the cheese, scallions, and sour cream.

Hot Dogs and Brats on the grill, keep it simple as a Buffalo NY people know the best hot dogs are Sahlens ! They can be  ordered online in advance they are the best! Brats my friends from Wisconsin served the best brats at a football game recently and served Hermann Wurst Haus brats from a little town in Wisconsin you can order from them online as well. For the dogs and brats the usual condiments will work, Heinz Ketchup, French’s Mustard, Chopped Onions, Dill Pickles. As a special treat Nances sharp and creamy mustard with and complements nicely both the brats and the pretzels. Serve the dogs and brats with a pasta salad and baked bean , the Bush beans from the can will be fine., and pick up some fresh baked buns at your favorite bakery.

These foods keep cooking, serving and have available all afternoon.

As far as outdoor activities if you have a hill have the guests bring sleds and saucers and enjoy the day on the hill going up and down boy that’ll work up a hunger fast and keep you warm. Another fun activity we like to do is bring your football and have a friendly game a touch football in the snow everybody loves that. If you have a frozen pond nearby , can’t beat a pick-up hockey game make sure the  pond is frozen solid and make sure you check it first. If you have ice may as well play , get out there bring your sticks , gloves and your helmet for non skaters we like to put them in goal with their boots on with a stick…remember this is pickup no lifters. Afterwards a hot chocolate or even a cold beer is perfect, after some exercise sit down put your feet up next to the fire you won’t even believe it’s the middle of January!
